Welcome to the Art Department!
Stacey K. Johnson

This will be my first year teaching at Thornwell and I have eight years total experience. I have a Bachelor's degree in Art Education from Francis Marion University and a Master's Degree in Education with a specialization of Integrating Technology in the Classroom from Walden University.
Visual Arts at TSA is a comprehensive program where students experience different types of art media, techniques, styles and artists. All units will have foundations in the Elements and Principles of Art and Design. During the art making process students think, plan, create, and reflect upon their artwork. Art instruction is aligned with curriculum standards of math, reading, writing, social studies and science.
Please feel free to stop by and check out what your child is doing!
Mission Statement
I believe Art education is one of the most important disciplines students will come across in their studies. Therefore, it is my responsibility to provide a stable and welcoming learning environment for my students to grow as individuals as well as artists. It is vital that I provide life-long learning experiences in which students learn to begin connecting their Art experiences to their real life experiences. Art education covers and complements all of the other subjects in education and fosters the development of the student’s mind and body. Critical thinking skills will be encouraged and students will be provided a nurturing arena for open expression and artistic thought.
Overall, my main goal as an Art educator is to stimulate students’ interest in Art and creative thinking while making personal connections with my students based on one connection we all share in my room: We are all artists and students.
