Important Dates/ Upcoming Events


Literacy Night cropped

Thornwell will host our Second Quarter Awards Day on Thursday, January 30th. Attend the First through Third grade celebration at 8:30 am. 
Fourth and Fifth grade will begin at 9:30 am.

The Annual TSA Father/Daughter dance will be held on Thursday, February 13. This dance is for all positive male role models in the lives of our female students. Please watch the gold folders for more information.


 


ATTN: DCDS Families

The application period for the 2020-2021 Expanded School Choice program is now open. Through the Expanded School Choice program, parents can apply for their children to attend any school in the district next year, except Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology. The application is available online on the district’s website at www.darlington.k12.sc.us. Completed applications must be submitted no later than January 24, 2020, to be considered.

 


Teacher Feature

 

Congratulations to Ms. Charleston for being the January Teacher Feature! Ms. Charleston was born in Auburn, AL. She has two sisters and one brother, she is the next to youngest child. Ms. Charleston attended the University of NC, Pembroke where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Piano Performance. Ms. Charleston then earned her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix. She is currently seeking a Doctoral Degree in Education Leadership from Liberty University. Next month, Ms. Charleston will have been married to her husband, Joshua, for 8 years. They have two wonderful children, Joshua, 6, and Isabella, 4 and four cats! In her spare time Ms. Charleston likes to read and go to the beach. Ms. Charleston is thrilled to be part of Thornwell School for the Arts, she feels this is the best school she has worked for in her 6 years of teaching!

TSA Families,  don't forget to check agenda books!  You will learn a lot.  If your child says they do not have one,  call the school.  Your child will also bring home a gold folder every Thursday, make sure to check it for important information.

Congratulations to Ms. Patricia McKinley for being named the 2019-2020
 Thornwell Teacher of the Year!!
Ms. McKinley is a first grade teacher here at Thornwell.
Ms. McKinley does a wonderful job making learning fun!
